Am I mental to be considering one of these? they go for between 200-300 with accessories which is little more than a d40 d70 or d100 (all used).

I really don't like the feel of the cheaper offerings from Canon or Nikon in the above price bracket, the the MP count is large enough for me (all the cameras I'm considering are (5-8MP).

What are the downsides? anybody used one?
 
The downsides that I can think are; Poorish ISO performance and small rear screen. If you can ignore those points, then yes a D1X will take just as good a shots as it did in its hayday. Not sure how much they go for now, but might also be worth looking out for a D2H or D2.
