I recently swapped the headlights in my MK3 Mondeo to OEM projector hid units but compared to the Ring Xenon Ultima halogens I have in the other units I do not see any real improvement, I'm presuming it's due to the fact the bulbs are probably ancient.

Anyone want to suggest any new bulbs for me to try? I've seen some on autobulbs direct at £56 a pair, are these likely to be pants or do I need to be shelling out £150 for a set of nightbreakers?

I recently replaced my factory Philip xenon bulbs with Orsam Silverstars 66240SVS due to the old headlights looking fairly dim after 7 years of use.

It is hard to put a figure on it but the new bulbs are around 40% brighter, they give a noticeably more pure white light at 4200k than the old 4300k bulbs that I suspect had colour shifted closer to 5000k over time. The only downside is they do appear very white closer to yellow which doesn't look as good as the 4300/5000k Xenon bulbs which have a slightly blue tint but this is the price you pay for more light output.

I never took any before or after photos but when investigating what bulbs to get I did find this post showing the difference between a 12 year old factory Xenon bulb and a new Silverstar.

Contemplating doing this to my headlights as they will be 10 years old or so now, could do with polishing the headlights too as they are very yellow on the lense now :(

Your current HID's must be seriously toasted to be outperformed by a 55w halogen. Get some replacement capsules from Ebay and see what the difference is like then :p
