D3 or not?

I have the chance to buy a D3 and a couple of lenses for a very good price from a friend that is giving up Photography and needs the cash for bills.

I'm just an amateur shooting with a D200 at the moment and love it. The D3 is obviously a Pro setup and while the price is attractive and I dont want to pass up on it, I'm not sure I like the huge size of it.

Any advice on here to help me make the decision?

I've read those reviews and I think the D700 would suit me more, size, weight etc should be similar to the D200 I use now. I was actually hoping to upgrade to a D300 in a few months as I have some DX lenses.

Price wise, its a saving of about £1500 over new prices, so very tempting.

Depends on the price really. If it's THAT good a deal then go for it and gradually grow in to the D3's abilities. If the price is good but not THAT good then maybe go for a D300 or D700 if that would work out a lot cheaper...?

Depends what you really want to do with it... and how serious you are about photography. My friend has a D700 and its a cracking body, and I love the viewfinder it has.. My other friend has the D3, they're both brilliant bodies, you'd have to be seriously weird to not like either of them really..

They'd also be a much better camera than the D200, especially in focusing, colour reproduction and noise, but they're both expensive..

As has already been mentioned, if the D3 is a *really* good price, buy it - you won't regret it, but if a D700 is going to be much cheaper, you'll be very happy with it. You can't fail with any of them tbh.
