Its the Daddy.

Still, for mo0st people the D3 at halve the price is more attractive offer, where the extra stop of usable noise is a winner.

The good news for the rest of us is that Nikon will reuse the sensor in a D700x, at some point. Although even that might be expensive, the D700 should drop down another few hundred and become very affordable.

Just looking through the review, it looks absolutely stunning. When comparing the small photos near the end is the D3x's ones of the paperclips out of focus?

That actually made me kinda want a A900. Concidering the price difference between the 3 21Mp+ the drop in IQ to the the Sony really didn't look to bad. Its 1/2 the price of the canon and just over 1/3 of the price of the D3x.

since when has the alpha 900 been half the price of a 5Dmk2.... :p

Also, the D3x is cheaper than the 1DSmk3 now almost everywhere

The Sony does look like a bargain in that company, but a camera is always more than just how many MP's its sensor has.

Just look at the D3 by way of example.

If you have a tin hat, put it on now. :)

Just look at the noise performance of the A900, pretty terrible at anything above 400.
The 5dMk2 would be a much better budget option.

But I think you are missing the point, the D3x is not that expensive relative to the glass you will need, or the tripod/ball head to support it, or the singn ray filters.

And in the end, the sony A900 is not competing with the same market as the D3x. The only thing they have in common is the number of MP on the sensor, the sensor themselves are clearly different, and a camera is so much more than the sensor.

The sensor is the same apparently. Processing is better on the Nikon

No, the sensor started along the same design line with the Nikon-Sony cooperation, but the sensor is significantly different in the end, which is why the D3x sensor walks all over the A900 sensor in noise reduction. This is visible comparing RAW photos without noise reduction.

Are people just completely forgetting about the 5Dmk2 here? The a900 is in DIRECT competition with it and the 5D2 walks all over it in every sense, yet no one is comparing them on here :s

Erm that camera does noise reduction on the chip itself. The evidence you've given doesn't really support that fact.

Im only replying as I'm bored lol. I'm sure the sensor is tweaked.

A900 doesn't have HD video RG-tom nor does it have access to canon's lens line-up. Two big points imo

I know the 5Dmk2 walks all over the A900. But then, no serious pro would buy the A900 when there is the 5Dmk2....

i mean people are comparing the A900 to the 1Ds and d3x, and guess what none of them share the same lens mount :p Also, none of them do hd video which is another thing in the 5D's favour.......

Having used zeiss lenes, i can truely say that i would rather have a zeiss lens over anything made by canon, nikon, pentax or olympus. That is the only thing that would ever attract me to sony, but since it is possible to get Zeiss Z series lenses in nikon F, pentax K, m42 and canon EF fit i am unlikely to go for sony.
