D5 pump question

Got a VPP655 - single(D5 with out the top) today but when I turn the impeller by two fingers, it makes a squealing noise :eek:

That can not be normal right?
I don't have the top till tomorrow to test it under water properly.

This didn't happen with my MCP355 so I find it bit worrying!

Mine makes more noise with the lid off - not sure I could describe the noise as "squealing" though...

It's more like metal touching each other.
So is your pump not making that noise with the top on?

No, not at all. It makes a whining sort of noise, which muffles right down when you fill the loop with fluid... on mine at least!

So I got the top for the D5 today and did a test with just a small RES connected with a 12" tube.
No sound apart from air bubbles circulating and that went away after 1-2 minutes!
D5 even at highest setting IS much quieter than my DDC 18W!
But it is big!
