I use the vario, have done for years without a complaint, i heard the PWM d5 can be a bit annoying when its speeding up and slowing down but i havent owned one so cant confirm it. I do know the d5 does make a bit of noise when its getting up to speed but once its at that speed its quiet so i understand how it might be annoying.
Nothing between them as far as I can tell. With the PWM model just set it to a constant speed (mine's at 60%) in the BIOS and it won't annoy you by speeding up & slowing down all the time.
I've got an EK D5 PWM, the newer round type. The mounting options are horrible. I would really like to see an L bracket mount with a silicon/neoprene Base to help with vibrations.
Guess I'll have to make this myself if I want it anytime soon.
Bitspower have nailed the mounting...
I prefer the EK pump top but it won't work with the bitspower mount.
Yeah thats the spirit, if they dont make it for you, make it yourself . Its very much the way i look at it when i encounter a problem mounting something.

If he gets a anti vibration bracket hell be able to run it on any speed and it will be nice and quiet, i tried running mine on speed 1 but my CPU got a bit toasty im guessing thats the dual GPUS dumping all their heat onto it, but even speed 2-3 works fine in my setup.
The only other thing I'd suggest is looking at the Aquacomputer D5 with USB control. You get SO much control and functionality, but you can only really take advantage of all of it if you have an Aquaero fan controller and it is a lot of setup work.
I think my D5 vario is about 9 years old now. Changed up to a revo top earlier this year and its still as quiet as the day I bought it, I run it on 3 as it seems my GPU block is quite restrictive. Stunning pump, its been in many of my builds.
