I've taken to capturing RAW files with my D50 and opening them with the plugin for CS2. Problem being, as soon as i open the file, the sliders (exposure, shadows, brightness etc.) are always set to auto meaning what i open in PS is totally different from how the image looks either on my camera or in Nikon Picture Project. It's very frustrating as i have to go through and rearrange all the sliders, simply to get it how it should. Most of my images look great in PictureProject, but then get messed up when i open them in PS.

Is there a way to make Camera RAW use the camera settings the image was actually captured with? At least to begin with, before i begin to fine-tune it?

Excellent thanks. But what should the settings be as default? It doesnt seem like 0 for everything is right to reproduce what i see in PictureProject

AFAIK you can't reproduce the settings you shot with in anything other than Nikon Editor (Free with Nikon view, but has virtually no options. Nikon view is free too) or Nikon Capture (commercial).

It's one of the reasons I use Nikon Capture.

Not sure for Nikon, I'm afraid as I use Canon. It seems though, when I turn off auto for all the settings, and make no adjustments to the sliders, then Adobe Raw shows the shot as it was taken in the camera

Just flick CTRL+U for auto on/.off in ACR, I do this for both canon and nikon raw images, the default is auto on but if you turn auto off and save new ACR defaults like this it will not auto any more raw files until you choos eit to.
