I took my d50 out earlier and there seems to be a rattle noise type thing coming from inside it. I've never really noticed this before although I’ve only had the camera for a few months.

I’ve removed the lens and it's definitely coming from the body although exactly where about I’m unsure although it sounds around the rear lcd area.

Does anybody else’s d50 do this?

I'm not shaking the camera wildly, it just make the noise if the camera moves while pointing it vertically if that makes sense.

Not sure about the D50 but my Canon 20D has a small tilt switch inside that records whether a photo has been taken in landscape or portrait mode

Yeah, I've noticed a rattle with my D100 since I dropped it down the stairs... :D

Not really! If you take off the lens/body cap and hold the camera firmly in the normal landscape position and rotate it 90 deg. to the portrait position you should hear a rattly sound. I guess this is as others have said the orientation sensor switch. If I shake my D100 body I get all sorts of rattles from it anyway, so I wouldn't worry unless something drops out of your D50/it stops working :p
