D5200 incoming.

I'm interested to see where they go with this since the D3xxx line generally had an inferior sensor which isn't the case for this generation (unless there's a 32mp crop sensor waiting in the wings!!!!).

Hopefully it'll give us an insight into what to expect from the D7100 & D400 (if that's the way Nikon are going).

Not yet confirmed, but 'leaked':

•CMOS sensor 24.1 million pixels
•The image processing engine EXPEED3
•RBG sensor split 2016
•39 AF points (multi-CAM4800DX)
•920 000 dot LCD monitor 3.0-inch Vari-Angle
•The shooting 5 fps / up to approximately
•Video - full HD (1920 × 1080i)
•Shutter speed 1/4000-30 seconds
•Equivalent to ISO25600 ISO100-6400, in sensitizing
•Media SD / SDHC / SDXC
•EN-EL14 battery
•Weight (including battery and media) 555g approximately
•Release in December

Pretty damn good?!

Am I the only one who's sad to see such a big of a big jump in megapixels from the 5100? Hope it doesn't come at the expense of image quality.

It can't be that much of a surprise surely? It's basically the same upgrade they did in the jump from D3100 to D3200.

Not enough to worth upgrading from the D5100, but it keeps their upper entry-level DSLR competitive.

I like those specs..

D7K AF and Metering? That's a nice upgrade!

The increase in MP count is not as bad as it sounds for noise, whilst pixel noise increases, the actual image noise stays roughly the same for similar generation sensors.. so you won't be any worse off at high ISO, but you will gain resolution at low ISO..
The only other downside is a slight drop in DR, but nothing dramatic..

Not sure what they will do with the D7K, surely that's overdue a revamp?

I wish they'd do 1080p60 not 1080i60 for video, and nikon aren't quite there with video AF IIRC, so be interesting to see how it pans out

Hmm I've just bought a 5100, expecting it to be delivered tomorrow.

Do you think I should send it back and wait for this? I need a camera before the start of December. :o

Edit - I've just seen the price. £820 with 18-55 lens. No thanks! I just paid £425 after cashback for the 5100/35 1.8 and 2 x 16 Class 10 SD cards. I'll stick with my little bargain.

£720 does seem like a lot, especially when you consider that the D3200 does almost as much and is a fair chunk cheaper. Still it's nice upgrade for me and am still tempted.

The specs are amazing i must say but i thought this camera was meant to be like a "650d" canon equivalent? i was expecting the price point to be around 500, mabe 600 stretching it as this is not meant to be a high end crop camera?
