Just browsing the net and came across a high street store website that has is offering the following:

Nikon D60
AF-S DX Nikkor VR 18-55mm Lens

for £380.

Is that price any good?

I am after something suitable for beginner but won't limit me as my skill improves. The D40 is cheap enough however I get the impression it may be limiting as my skill improves.

Got a friends wedding on Sat and they are worried as they haven't heard anything from their photographer yet. I've been after a camera for ages but just never really bothered so thought this would be the ideal time.

Was hoping to pick it up tomoz if the price isn't that bad! Dont mind paying a little over the odds fir it as I will get it straight away.

Suggestions for alternatives around the same price if this camera isn't great?

Also, after recommendations for a tripod/bag for it.

Regarding the SDHC cards you can buy with them, i've loads of 8gb microSD cards + SD adapter are these acceptable?

I'll also need extra batteries & charger, any suggestions?

thanks for the input :)

Main areas of photography will be social events, wildlife and scenery.

I will have a play with both and see what they are like :)

hmm, I've just looked at some comparisons of the 2 and from the bits I actually understand there seems very little in it.

I prefer the look of the 1000D but think the D60 will be slightly better suited to what I want.

All I've got to do now is to talk the missus into letting me get it and I can go out tomorrow and have a play with them both. :D

whats the difference with ISO's?

I think its got something to do with the quality of the image. And under what circumstances would you use the higher ISOs that the D60 has issues with?

thanks mud.

How does the 1000D perform agaisnt the D60/D40 regarding ISO quality?

Sorry for all the questions but I will be picking this up tomorrow so need to go fully armed with as much info as possible :D

argh!!

i've been up all night reading reviews and i am more confused now than before!

:(

wish i could just get the extra cash for the 450D and be done with it.

well, I've just back and after having hassle with my credit card (bloody HSBC) I've finally purchased a....

D60! :)

I spent a good hour in there speaking to the lad behind the counter, who despite being young really did know what he was talking about :)

I had a play with the D40, D60, 1000D as well as the D90 & 450D.

After having a good play with them all I decided the D60 felt better in my hands than the other 2 budget ones and I preferred the feel of the D90 as well. This should do me for a couple of years until I am ready to move on.

Just come to my mates house to have a play as I can't wait until I get home. :D

Going to be taking it everywhere with me and taking as many shots as possible. All I need to do now is learn to use it, must also buy an adapter for it so I can connect it to my telescope!
