An explanation of my camera configuration.



@ Energize

You don't need loads of focus points 99% of the time imo. Just a handful in strategically placed ones.

The trouble with just using the centre focus point is that you are going to get boring compositions as the subject will always be in centre. If you want to change the composition in post, then it mean you need to crop. With is effectively like shooting with a small sensor. It rob's the advantages of shooting with a larger sensor and degrades the image.

Depending on if the centre focus point is the only decent AF point, and how much DOF you have, you might like to try using the 'AF ON' button and pre focusing and recomposing near a jump etc. Then when a horse comes, you can ring off a few shots. How many will depend on your camera's burst speed and DOF.
