I have been looking at both of these cameras for a while now and I really like features in both but the 7000 is older and heavier and the 5200 is newer and lighter.

They each have some really nice unique features which would come in handy. eg: the weatherproof sealing on the 7000 and the HDR mode on the 5200.

Which would you guys go for and why? Is there a 71000 coming shortly or is there a middle model from another brand I should take a look at?

I was looking at this page and it shows the pros and cons between the two:

Any thoughts?

Thought about the older D5100? Amazing deal on at JL at the mo, £429.95 for kit lens and 55mm - 200mm VR lens, plus a further £90 cashback. Leaving you plenty spare for other lens if you didn't purchase your 2 mentioned models.

Where on Jl website is £429.95? The 5100 is £639.95 for the above specs plus the cashback. If it is £429.95, I may break into my bank loan and purchase this beuty of a deal... :)

Just some links on google.

I know from reading around (I'm not a Nikon user) that the D7000 is the best camera around in that range (well, better than anything Canon offer at that price or below). I have seen people recommending the newer 5200 a lot recently. Other than post links I can't say much about them though.

That very same deal is only available in Welwyn Garden City branch as they are price matching a local competitor, or over the phone :) Call them up and give them the product code, and they tell them WGC are doing it at the reduced price, they will check the store price and match it. It's over at hotukdeals. Be quick though stock may be low.

I'm actually thinking of going with the 7000 at the moment. It's cheaper than the 5200 but seems a better camera. HDR, I guess I can do on my computer if required. It's just a shame the video mode isn't as good as the 5200

Too late :(
Also they have started asking for the actual name of the competitor to try and stop people buying from outside Welwyn.. Bah humbug...

Guys, is it still worth buying a Nikon D7000 brand new for £587 (Body Only, 3 year Nikon warranty) or shall I wait to see what next year brings?

Yes, very worth it! Where is it?

A store where I live (outside of uk).

In the end I ordered one today along with a Sigma 18-250mm macro OS HSM and 2x 16GB SanDisk Ultra SD cards so I'm hoping the finance is approved asap as im gagging to get snapping again!
