I've an ageing D5000 which I'm looking to replace, and I see you can get a new D7000 for about £500 including the current cashback offer.

Is it worth getting at this price, or would I be kick myself for not saving up for a 7100 at a later date ?

I have a D40 (:p) and am in the same boat.

My current thinking is to save up for the D7100. Because it has the newer Expeed3 processor and the newer 51 point AF system.

As you can see I keep camera bodies for a long time so I think I'd get the added benefit of the newer camera

Yes it's worth getting... performance and IQ are still absolutely fantastic and the MP's are enough for most non-specialist cropping needs. The 7100 gains are not really noticeable for the market segment, and if they are then you should be looking at a D610 anyway.

I've traded down my 5D2 back to a D7000 and it's still an awesome camera, so capable, especially for the price you can get them 2nd hand now (£360 I paid). The last 10 or so photos on my flickr were taken with my D7000, very happy with the results.

Yep still worth it.

AF, IQ, Dynamic Range and in-body features are still up there with the best and they are around £400 now for a decent used body which is an absolute steal.

D7000 is a cracking camera for the money, although I'm not sure the D7100 is really worth the premium over the cost of a second hand D7000.

Used D7000s are beginning to start with 3s now. That's a lot of camera for the money. I feel no reason to upgrade my D7000 unless I was working toward a full frame camera.

One of the best DSLRs ever made for prosumers. The focus of the D7100 is another level, the sensor much the same but there is a big price jump

I just traded my d5100 in for one , I wanted the fps and auto focus options plus the ability to fine tune the auto focus on lenses, I love the 2 user modes, mine was below £400 with a 6month warranty from mpb.

great company to deal with but for an extra ... if I did not have to buy a lens aswell I'd go for a new one.

D7000 was a massive step forward for Nikon. The biggest shame was they didn't put the same tech into a pro body. That's sensor in a D300s body would have been amazing.

The other option might be a D5200, are you able to quantify your issues with the D5000?

I went for a zoom a af-s 70-300 vr mainly for wildlife close up as I have other gear for long range photo's, I bought a used 18-200 vr f3.5 but I think whoever traded it in did it for a reason as the auto focus mechanism kept jamming althought I love how versatile it is/was but could not risk getting another battered one.
