Well after many hours of thought I've taken the plunge and just ordered a Nikon D80 together with the 18-200mm VR lens. Had decided on the D80 some time ago to replace my old Canon EOS 5 film SLR but could not decide which lens to get to go with the D80. Good reviews of the 18-200 VR are posted on various forums including Overclockers however, the cost was slightly putting me off. In the end I've decided to bite the bullet and spend the extra on this lens which will replace my 28-105mm and 100-300mm Canon lenses in a single lens. Sadly now got to wait for the gear to arrive with the courier! Cheaper on the Net but sadly you don't get the satisfaction of going into the shop and then taking home your shiny new purchase with you. Never mind, small price to pay. :)

Not sure if your aware of this but your first picture must be of a duck!

Congrats on the purchase, I look forward to pictures from you :)

Nope :)

Just has to be a duck :)

We've all done it...and don't ask me why, it's quackers :p

/books taxi

rubbish, mine was of a weed/flower.

then again, i have a Lovely Canon. maybe you Evil Nikon users take photos of ducks.

;)

congrats on purchase :)

hoping to go get my nikon D40X from a competitor(is it really a competitor, OcUK don't stock nikon stuff(if it still counts i'll take it down)) on friday, looking forward to it :D

Yes, they are a competitor.

A nice camera, and a cracking lens. I switched from L-glass canon to get the same combination; much better for travelling than a bag full of primes.

I do however have the 60mm micro Nikkor - it's a great focal length for portraits, aswell as being one of the sharpest photomacrography lenses... and if you see one sub £100, pick up the 28mm 2.8 as a good standard lens...

The two wheels on the d80 mean that you can control pretty much everything on the fly, no need to move your eye from the viewfinder - I use front wheel for shutter, back for aperture, I keep the metering as matrix, and the colour on jpeg set to +1 vivid. I'd shoot RAW, but I manage to fill 8Gb of SD cards when I'm vacationing even on jpeg....

SD cards are cheap as they've ever been at the moment... maybe time to get some more...

Oh, and my first photos were of a swan, not a duck. Does that count, though?

congrats on purchase :)

Yes it does count as a competitor im afraid, so please edit your post. :)
Nice choice of camera. We've got a load for work, but unfortunately I rarely get my hands on them. :(
