Hi everyone, it's been a while since I was in P&V.

It's time to replace my D50 and I've got a fair budget to play with.

My initial plan was to get a D810 and pair it with the Nikkor 16–35mm f4.

I mostly shoot landscapes and a bit of candid/reportage - no wildlife or sport.

I've been using a nifty fifty as my sole lens for a good few years now so I'm looking forward to some UWA and FX shooting.

The video side of things also interests me a lot as I've been doing quite a bit in Premiere and After Effects at work recently.

Last weekend I was mountain biking with friends and a couple of the guys had GoPros. I started thinking it would be really good to have for those situations where the DSLR is too big / fragile to be used but I can't really stretch to the D810 and a GoPro.

With the difference in price between the D810 and D750 I could sneak in a GoPro and accessories so I wanted to see what you lot thought about the two options.

Thanks for any advice.

I would go for the D750+GoPro. The articulating screen is really useful for live view/video work, and the GoPro is a handy little camera. The D750 is also a stop better at high ISO for video (and maybe better for stills). I was deciding between the D810 and D750 myself, I went with a D800E in the end and saved a lot, as I didn't need the latest video features and quieter shutter, but I still wanted 36MP and the more familiar (to me) layout. However I tend to shoot more stills than video (and I'm used to medium format film) which is why the D800E+money for travel won out for me. You use a D50 so moving to the D750's control scheme won't be an issue at all.

I would go for the D810: better sensor (higher dynamic range, lower noise at high ISO), wider spread AF points, much larger buffer, higher pixel density giving effective DX crops, bigger viewfinder, better body with weather sealing, more pro orientated features and layout.
If the D810 is out of budget then look for a D800/E and save a packet.

If you are into landscapes then the D810 makes much more sense, and the d800 is much the same.

Thanks to both of you for the suggestions; D.P. makes some good points, ultimately the landscape stills side of things is what it will be used for the most so it makes sense to play to those strengths.

I could always get the GoPro at a later date if I find the video side of things is taking off.

I've ordered the D810 and 16-35mm f4.

I'm away this week so won't get it until next week. It's going to be a long wait. :D

You won't be dispapointed, amazing cameras. Processing the RAWs is just a joy, there is so much detail and latitude. Bringing out the shadows from no where still feels magical

The cost of a go pro is less than most lenses so it is really an independent decision to which camera body to buy.
