Looking to improve the sound on my phone and with Xmas coming up etc...is a portable DAC worth it really? Will it make a difference?

Currently i use < £30 in ear sennheisers.

Doubtful with those earphones. Best way to improve audio normally comes from the end nearest your head first.

Great deal @ RS at the moment with the CAMBRIDGE AUDIO DACMAGIC XS / XS2 but you would be better of spending the money on better earphones.

Cool cool - should i be looking at non in-ear headphones to get better sound quality?

Stupid question perhaps. :o

Depends on what you want to spend really. :)

AKG Y50 (on ear) are currently £50 @ RS and they are very good value.

I already have some other portables, but a mate at work bought some the other day and they sound bloody good. Really impressive. He has some Shure SE215 earphones (£100) and prefers the Y50's.

If you want to spend a little more, you can get the Sennheiser HD 598 Cs on a Black Friday deal at you-know-where for £89 down from £200 atm. Designed to use with phones. Not heard them but they are Sennheirser so should be pretty damn good.

yeh those sennheiser are closed back so maybe not so good soundstage but good for loud places

i ordered myself some IE80's as they crazy cheap right now and my RHA's & bose are both breaking on me, why they always make the cables like trash :(

anyway hoping i can get a good fit with IE80's then i wont care
