A motorcyclist from Devon has been told he could go to prison after admitting driving at 122mph with his 14-year-old son riding pillion.

Robert Bennett opened the throttle on his 1300cc Suzuki because it started to rain, Exeter Crown Court was told.

A motorcyclist caught speeding at 122mph (196km/h) with his 14-year-old son riding pillion has been sentenced to six months in prison.

So he went 122mph because it started to rain

Typical organ donor mentality

Thats a completely ridiculous punishment.

Ruining the guys life for a little throttle.

Everyone knows 122 on a bike isnt that fast.

I bet some of these judges dont even drive.

I hope you get a ban for your little speeding incident because you clearly have no idea.

The guys life does deserve to be ruined for doing 122mph in the rain with his child clinging on for dear life. If he was on his own then it would be a little harsh, but he had a kid with him at the time.

Unfortunately on a road with a 60/70 mph limit, 122mph is rediculously fast whether bikers think it is or not. The fact that his son is on the back with no protective gear on makes it worse. What makes it even worse is that he went faster because it started raining.....the guy got everything he deserves with that mentality.

His life could have been ruined even more if he'd have come of and killed his son?! don't you think? oh wait, clearly not.!

I did think 6 months was a little harsh, we don't know if he had previous convictions for speeding well above the limit though. One of the reasons I couldn't trust myself on a bike, as stated above 122mph is easy on a bike.

Bet the ex is happy he won't be getting custody of his son again any time soon!

His kid might well have asked his dad to step on it.

Im not condoning it, but we have all at one time or another done something similar.

I mean lets just quantify it.. PRISON, with dealers, robbers, rapists etc etc..

For riding a bike a little bit fast. Utterly ludicrous.

People should have big fines, or me made to help somehow in the community.

Edit: Ahh yes, he could be a serial speeder, in which case it doesnt look quite as bad, but if he was clean before hand....

No, I have never driven twice the speed limit with a young passenger. It wasn't a little bit of speed, it was severely endangering the life of a child and causing death by dangerous driving.

You cannot justify doing that speed, in the rain with a young passenger.

Im not talking about justifying the actions, but the PRISON sentance being ludicrous.

Should have been a fine and some points, or just a 6 month ban.

What good does it do for the dad to be locked up ? Hes not a danger to the community if hes off his bike after being banned.

He's a danger to the well being of his son, which has been clearly demonstrated. Hopefully the prison sentence will put him off doing it again. It's only six months, he'll probably be out in 3. He deserves all the fines/points/prison/bum rape he gets.

Ah well, 3's not too bad.

But this means hes now got a criminal record ?

It's about his kid, he seriously endangered a 14 year old by blasting it down in the rain. Come on he could have killed his kid, if he was alone then fine I'd let him get away with a massive fine but he shouldn't endanger children...

He could have well been a child killer himself.

So much hate here, if his son was wearing proper biking gear they would both be dry and fine, no need to speed up.

It's obvious that you must have personally witnessed this incident. Would you care to let us know what the the road conditions were like at the time (other than starting to rain), and whether the teenager on pillion was actually in fear of his life or, more likely, grinning like a maniac and enjoying every second?

Since you are also clearly a road safety expert, could you also quantify the increase in danger that that the rider and passenger were exposed to by travelling at 122mph?
