my dad is after a laptop and today he said he wants a small lcd tv for the conservatory , i suggested not wasting money on lcd tv and get a laptop with some tv card or such with it.

Can anyone suggest such a machine he will be using laptop for mail/web and i guess music as well as the tv thing. Oh and the cheaper the better ( said he)

What sort of ballpark are we talking about here? Is he looking for something below £100? £500? £1000?

You should be able to purchase a USB television card for pretty much any laptop, so that's not a problem. Only extremely high-end systems (>£1500) are likely to have built in television cards :)

What's the viewing distance?
A laptop + remote + TV tuner will cost more than a LCD TV. Plus the hassle involved setting up a TV-PC. You'll want at least a 15", ideally 17" Although if he's buying a laptop anyway the added cost of remote and TV tuner isn't that high.

But I would get the biggest screen possible. This is available for £530 inc vat, Celeron CPU lets the spec down though..
