Dad wants a new PC

I need some help picking a spec for my dad who needs a new pc. He also wants a new screen, but I've picked the Acer P193W 19" Widescreen LCD Monitor for £100 as he needs nothing any bigger.

It will be for basic software but wants something that will be reliable, last a long time and possibly be upgradable. Not fussed on AMD/Intel, pick whichever would be most suitable.

Possibly get the spec within £300-£400, thanks.

Ok, I've taken these posts into consideration.

What do you think of this gfx card - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-138-XF (XFX ATI Radeon HD 4650) - He doesn't play games, just basic stuff like internet and word processing.

Also how would the Coolermaster Elite 335 Case be with cable management with a Corsair CX 400W ATX Power Supply?

Btw no CPU cooler required as there will be no overclocking.

I would go with Intel i3, but it seems AM3 Athlon processors seem better value..
 
If does not play any games then the integrated graphics on the AMD board or the i3 will be plenty.
 
Would this spec be ok, will it all the parts be compatible with eachother?

Is that PSU alright? I chose modular because it will be less cables but is it a reliable PSU?
