My dad turns 50 in a couple of months so im looking for a birthday gift. I cant really think of what to get him however the best I can think of is a iwc portofino

He likes very plain and simple watches but has never had an nice watch

or

(both can be found with a black strap)

However I am open to other suggestions it does not have to be a watch but I want something that will last for years, budget is around £1k to £1.5k (going to split it with my bro).

If I do get the watch I was going to get it engraved on the back, however what should I put on there?

Hmm you sure this isn't at "look what I can afford to buy my Dad" thread? ;)

If you think a watch is suitable, go for it.

There isn't a set rule, just get what you think your Dad would like.

Mine for example went to Ireland with his mates to celebrate his 50th.

Engrave his name and address on a new watch seems hes getting on a bit ;) incase he gets lost :P

Zip up tartan bootie-slippers? ;)

Took my dad to Classic Team Lotus for his 50th...

Mum's 50th this year - and me and Dad are going to Bruntingthorpe to see the Vulcan.. As he said - from one big bomber to another..

You have 2 paths...silly or nice

I'd go nice tbh...

No not really, im splitting it with my brother and it represents about a months pay for him. And I am using the precedes of selling my omega to pay for my half :)

A pacemaker, a "Learn Braille In 99 Easy Steps" book, a walking stick, a colostomy bag, the list is endless!

You could get him a mail order bride? It'd make for an interesting day at least, though I should imagine that 1.5K would get something very "low-end", probably something with high milage and a some scruffy bodywork - don't expect a full service history either.
