I drove my Dad's i20 yesterday to give it a run as he's unable to drive at the moment. I think it has an issue, see what you think.
Aside from the obvious that it's a nasty, plastic, cheapo piece of cra..car.

When you press the throttle very gently - and I'm talking 1mm here - while in neutral or with the clutch disengaged, the revs will rise around the clock to about 7k. It's impossible to balance the revs at say, 2000rpm.
Now, on my car and every other car I've driven, you can put the revs wherever you like depending on how much throttle you give it. Not so on Dad's i20, it behaves like a 2-stroke as in the amount of throttle dictates how fast the needle goes around the dial, rather than what revs will be set to.
This makes driving the car smoothly in low gears almost impossible. He's taken it to the dealer once who have said "It's fine mate, that's how cars are these days". Dad of course believes the dealer.
Personally, I think it's not right, either because of a fault or by design.

Anyone else who's driven an i20 noticed something similar or am I going to have to go and get the car and drive it through the window of the local Hyundai dealer?

My mum has one of these, I'll maybe pop round later and have a go if I have time, but I have difficulties driving it at low speeds because of both clutch and over servo'd breaks. It's very hard to rev match changing gears, always over-revving it :(

Can you hold it at speed on a motorway or carriageway?

That's not right. Take it back and demonstrate it to them, get them to fix it. Try and demonstrate a working one, in the showroom, as well if they're being argy bargy about it.

Id take take it and ask the question but watch out if they charge you a diagnosis check. I find it if you stay with the car and they check it they dont charge.

My Seat is very easy to rev when in neutral like yours but is fine when driving. Its not the first car ive had to do it. I put it down to the engine is unloaded.
