feel embarrassed asking this but what fan sucks air in to a PC and what fan is the extracting fan?

does air get sucked in at the back and blown out the side? I've got a vent from the CPU stock cooler out the side of the case, I'm sure it's a vent so am I right in thinking that air is sucked in from teh back?

the fan is on but hard to tell, I think the back fan is the vent and the intake is the side...ah well, just a general query

used the paper method, the fan is so quiet and soft I could barely feel it with my hand but the paper showed me that the side is the vent intake and rear is the exhaust.
