Daft question: how does wide screen work ???

Guys,
As the title. Does it work by just stretching a 4:3 resolution? Or are there a specific set of resolutions that only apply to wide screen monitors?

Do these resolutions only become available for selection when you install the driver for the widescreen monitor? Does the video card need to be able to support the wode screen resolution too?

no, you'd use a specific WS resolution, like 1680x1050 for instance on 20" and 22"WS models. They normally appear once the display is connected automatically, and installing the monitor driver can just tell the PC what the native res should be.
