Daft TV Stand Question

I'm in the market for a new TV but having a bit of trouble picking a stand, principally because it's got to take my media PC which is a good 440mm deep and most of the stands out there are 400mm tops. I've spotted a nice Kenmark one which has enough space for all the kit but is listed as being for up to 32" TVs. So here comes the daft question:

Surely there's no problem (weight limits aside) in putting a 40" TV (1000mm wide) on an 800mm wide stand?

Well it would look a bit odd wouldn't it, with the TV sticking out of the sides?

The Atacama Equinox AV is 1060mm wide and up to 550mm deep so should be big enough for you. You can get one that has a TV stand on the back of it too if you wanted to use the top surface for something else.

I had the same problem with depth for the HTPC when I was looking for one. I was going to get the Equinox AV but in the end got something from Ikea as I didn't want to spend that much on a stand.

I did look at the Equinox and very nice it is too, shame it's just a shade too wide to go in the alcove.

What's the width of the alcove then, just big enough for the TV?

That looks interesting, I might take a run up to Ikea and have a look at it.
