I have a friend who is 16 and recently has been given this car as her first car...i don't know much about it and so i Google image searched it and gasp, a 4x4!

Any these cars any good? Just curious. /shrugs.

Looks fun :D

Edit:

here is something he should deal with :)

The engine is generally known to have performance difficulties attributed to poor air induction which can be improved by the removal of the air filtration system fitted by Daihatsu and the application of a more free flowing air filter. Although this is not recommended for offroad users due to water ingress to the throttle body, a snorkel is usually fitted through the near-side wing, running up the passenger side front pillar.

Go for the Snorkle and take it offroad

And look out for this:

he chassis rails are well known to trap rust and dirt as the drain holes become clogged, leaving the owner with large holes in the chassis which will fail the MOT test.

And heres the MPG

General usage in urban areas will give 34-36 MPG

I used to have to drive a 2.8l R reg (1997) Fourtrak for work. Was quite a cool 4x4 would do anything I wanted, and did a max of 94mph, althuogh at that speed I would get 250 miles for a full tank of diesel (45l tank). Wasn't very good at quick manouveres due to the high body and fairly wiggly suspension, quite entertaining though!

My mum has a 1.6 sportrak (same shape as pic). She's had it over 5 years now and apart from the gearbox dropping all of it's oil (a warranty thing from where she bought it) and putting on some standard (as opposed to adjustable shocks) she's had no trouble with it whatsoever. She doesn't do loads of offroading (lol) in it but it does see enough driving up farm tracks and across the occasional field without issue. It's not too thirsty either.

I used to get 33-34mpg around town with a 1.9TD. 36 sounds suspiciously good for a 1.6 litre petrol, especially a very old 1.6 litre petrol..

Don't forget it's got an extra undriven axle to drag around most of the time. And a transfer box to add some more drag. It does make a noticable difference. I fitted a set of free wheeling hubs on my 4x4 and went from 20 to 25mpg.
