Its time i stopped denying it and just admitted to myself that "i love wow".

I've spent the most of my PC gaming time playing BF2, AoC and CSS.... thro out my time playing them all i've ever done is **** WoW off, calling it gay....

However since BC2 completely failed and PC gaming as whole seems to be a dark place atm (imo anyway) i decided to follow some of my fellow clan members and try wow.... We all started new toons to run around with, some brought 80’s over to farm and run us thro instances but majority of us are just enjoying the group play aspect.

I wasn't to impressed to begin with, found it really slow and boring... however the worse thing you can do is give up! So i stuck with it... once i hit level 18 and started doing dungeons it started to grow and grow on me. I then decided to take a look round the world as whole... WOW! ITS MASSIVE... the GFX are far better than video's i've seen, just max your settings and you'll be laughing!

Anyways.... jewel in the crown for me is after i took up mining and decided to spend a few hours levelling my profession... i came back to the fantastic stormwind and started to create some bronze bars, i had a little browse on AH to see how much they were selling for... to my amazement they were going for quite a bit, so i stuck them on.... Well well….. When i sold my few bar's for like 100 GOLD i was landed, literally loving it (sad I know)…. so downloaded an app on my phone to track my auctions and BAM i'm hooked!

So moral of the story is.... Its easy for us to sit there and **** off the game as gay fairy loving hippy crap, but being honest "dont knock it before you've tried it".... play the game with your friends to at least level 30 and watch how hooked you become, its the worlds biggest game ever for a reason!

I too enjoy a bit of WoW - although lack your capacity for addicition to it!

Too busy with work a wife and family, but given the other demands on my time if I only have time for one game WoW is it.
 
Must admit that I too have recently fallen to the same problem. Although I never let it control my personal life. If im bored and have nothing to do i will play. I will never drop RL friends or family or GF just to play the game. And I think this is why I enjoy the time i DO get the spend on the game more.

I have just recently dinged 80 on my rogue! And am starting to now gear him up as much as possible with the time contraints that i have.

ay i havent played for months now and im getting the itch xP i used to play quite a bit and raid 2/3 times a week which i loved. tho if something was planned on the same night i would have to choose, tho if it was just hanging out i would invite the guys round to mine and while i raided they could watch films play on the ps3 or watch tv as we chat so didn't really hinder my personal life much... just didn't tell the women i played it haha xD
 
I've recently started, and by recently I mean within the last week. Having a hard time settling down, but as soon as Blizzard get off their arse and sort my account activation out I think I'll be going with a blood elf paladin. I'm sure I'll grow more attached to it as time goes on, but at the moment I'm getting extremely irritated with a number of aspects:

1) How unresponsive it feels. Looting dead things seems to take much longer than it should, and selling to vendors is the same - i's not uncommon for me to have a bag full of greyed items waiting to be sold as soon as the vendor catches up with me. A minor issue, I'll grant you.

2) The AH is retardedly inflated. Before I realised I could pick up a copper rod from a trade vendor, I was fuming that the cheapest ones were going for 5g+, and where's a player of my level going to get that kind of cash? I dread to think how much it's going to cost to get needed mats later, but I know when the time comes I'd rather spend a fortnight levelling an alt than pay people's spastic prices.

3) Constant gold-selling spams in the capital cities. I don't know how this could ever be remedied, but it's irritating as hell.

4) Chatting in code. Obviously with experience you don't want to be spending time typing out the most common raids or events in full, but if the trade channel isn't full of gold sellers, it's swamped with incomprehensible jargon. Why these sort of posts aren't limited to the group channel, I don't know, but people seem to use the Trade channel for pretty much anything they feel like saying.

5) The whole experience is coming off as profoundly intimidating. The few times I've asked other players for help I've been routinely ignored or occasionally insulted. I stuck with one of the RP servers, even though I'm not an RPer myself, just because in most cases the communities tend to be more mature and friendlier, but not here.

I suppose I just need to get into it a bit more, but so far it's been a bit of a chore to deal with people. I'm enjoying the solo content, though.
 
To be honest the wow community is the worst you will find in an MMO. Really need to get yourself into a good Guild with friends (if you know anyone else that plays).

1) Shift click on corpses to pick up all loot in one go

2) The Auction house prices are indeed crazy, but at the same time, materials you have gathered will also sell for a premium.

3) You can get an addon (through Curse) that blocks out all gold spams, cant remember the name off top of my head (at work).

4) I would have thought this is similar with all mmo's and its something you get used to over time.

5) Back to my first point, the community is poor, find a good guild or try and tag along with some friends.

1) If you have auto loot turned on (its in options>interface somewhere) you should only have to click once on a mob and it will auto loot it for ya, as for vendoring stuff, just right click away and wait the few secs it takes for the server to catch up (any more and its our connection, I've never had any issues)

2) All materials needed to level professions are farmable, if I was levelling for the first time I would take 2 farming professions and make some money. If not, take one farming and one crafting that support each other so you can farm mats for your crafting ie herbalism and alchemy.

3) Its annoying, yes, but nothing to be done! Just rightclick/ignore! Or download the spam blocker addon from curse gaming. (cant remember the name at the moment!)

4) Welcome to wow trade chat, its the worst channel ever! I have it in a seperate window altogether and only refer to it if im after something specific/a pug!

5) Have a look on your realm forums on the wow forums and see if any guilds take your fancy that are recruiting. Failig that spam in trade/recruiting channels "LF Social Levelling guild" and try some guilds out!

1) Turn on auto loot or hold shift to toggle auto loot without enabling it all the time.

2) AH is different on every server... I would advise not using it while leveling, there really is no need. But always keep an eye out for deals. Make sure you have a profession where you can sell stuff i.e. Mining, Skinning, Herbing. Do not buy stuff to level your profession unless you have good backing from you main character. If it's your first, forget it.

3) Download an add-on called BadBoy or SpamMeNot. I haven't seen a gold selling message for god knows how long.

4) You can ignore tade until you hit 80, use the LFG system for dungeons. Also you will get used to ICC, RS, TOTC etc...

5) Depending on the level of your toon, I would get rid and join a PVE or PVP server. PVP server are fun for World PVP but can be a pain leveling sometimes when you constantly get ganked. What goes around comes around though, soon as you hit 80 go and gank the noobs for some payback :P

I was semi addicted to wow and played in top raiding guilds for about 2-3 years before quitting at the start of the year. It was actually the second time I had quit but this time it's sticking as I have no time anyway even for regular gaming except at the weekends.

It was fun and as others have said, in a good guild with good people it's enjoyable. But the general community has become infested with idiots who are rude, racist, sexist, you name it, safe behind the annonimty of their character. I was really hoping blizzard went through with the use of real names on their forums just these people are outed and shamed/banned.

However there are good people there too who play for the enjoyment and are mature buy from my experience they are in the minority.
 
Some good advice, though I knew about the auto-loot - I've just got a thing about picking up crap that sells for a pittance. Any vendor trash worth less than 20c/piece at the moment I'm ignoring. Then again, the druid I'm playing at the moment needs to thoroughly loot a corpse to skin it, so that may help. As for the rest of the stuff, I haven't played around with the addons and mods yet, and I'm still figuring out all the basic niggles of the interface at the moment - I'll learn how to separate the trade channel when I need it, and just /leave it til then.

I suppose getting guilded would help, though. Any of you fellas fancy adopting? :D

I was addicted. But i found it so easy to quit lol. I just took my membership off.

Its less demanding now that content is easy obviously. The 'be on this night from 'x'pm to z pm is horrible imo.

All that depends on the people you get in with... If a guild doesn't suit you don't join. I used to be in a guild and we'd only raid once a week as that was all the time we had.

I played wow for around a month and got to level 40 and i got really board with it :( proberly because i was playing it myself. Is there an ocuk gulid with a good comunity, new players starting out, noobs like me ect... might try and play it again after i get my new computer?.
 
I once had a friend who was addicted to wow. He became fat - addicted to take-away pizza's -, spotty and very unsocial.
Unfortunately, he died at a fairly young age, whilst playing wow with a full bucket next to him.
 
im not addicted, but the bloody game has taken a hold of me and will never let go :D

its not even that good but for some weird reason i keep playing it

Im playing VERY casually now, my two mains are retired permanently and im busy playing Starcraft 2, or planning the OCUK Cataclysm Guild.
