A little mishap happened here - one of the front 5.25" case panels came loose and fell inside the case while it was being moved. The PC wouldn't give a display after this happened, and upon pulling the GPU saw one of the black things (technical term) on the back of the card was chipped. See the pic, it's the third chip down, above the sticker.

I assume this is why the card no longer works. I tested the machine with an old 8600GT and it boots up no problem so it is definitely the card that is faulty.

Is this something that can be repaired or shall I write this card off and buy a new one?

I think, note think.

That you can get a replacement part(Obviously you'll have to find out what it is, exact specifications) order the exact same part and solder the new one one.

Not sure what that part is, but potentially you can fix it.

Depending what it is, an electronics store/ebay.

The chip is labelled Q701 if that helps. On the chip itself (on the two underneath anyway which look same, just soldered in opposite directions) says M3016D 208 03S.

I couldn't find anything via Google about where to buy a replacement or what the chip actually does. If anyone knows more about it please let me know. This card is as useful as a doorstop right now :)

An electonic repair store would almost certainly be able to repair that simply by removing the damaged component and soldering on a replacement. Finding a reputable repair shop is the difficult bit.

We get most of our stuff from work from farnell, we also use CPC and RS a lot

Dont look easy to me ?

It has 17 contact points by the look of the other chips, yes it can be done if you have the equipment but not at home.
