my psu cut out earlier this week then ran fine after being off for an hour.

I was in the process of building a new pc so only had it connected to water pumps. finished building & now the pc won't post. however my fan display has become very faint. tried a different one and that also has a faint display. the fans won't spin either.

so could the psu be damaged & not putting out as much power as it should be?? causing the system not to start

Are you using the psu in the spec in your sig? Perhaps take out a stick or two of RAM, if it runs it could be not enough power :)

Testing

Run on two sticks of ram, disconnect all drives other than your boot drive and run on 1 graphics cards and see if it then boots. Also if overclocked on your CPU go back to stock if it posts

appears the reason the fan display wasn't working was due to a faulty wire in the connector I was using from the psu. however still no boot up. noticed there's no power going to the USB ports too.

any ideas?

Silly question i know...but is the main power connector from the PSU connected to your Motherboard properly? I had the same kind of issue the other day and found that the connection was loose.

Worth checking :)

yea wish it was that but yep it's connected. the mb appears to have power partially as I've attached a fan to a header on it which works
