Dammit, why are there no nice cases available?

I've been looking high and low for a new case to start off a new rig with, but to no avail. None seem to have the class of the old coolermaster cases, and as much as I like Lian Li, they're just not as good imo. The 120mm fans are a bonus, and it would be something that I'd look for when buying a new case for noise reduction. I would use my CM500, but for a modern system it's not got the cooling potential with the PSU blocking the CPU cooler. Unfortunately it's been renegated to server duties.

What I'm trying to say is please please can someone find me a classy aluminium midi tower case with top notch cooling. I'm stumped.

It might have to be a Silverstone TJ04. Not exactly a lot of choice, the PC7 PLUS is pretty good too I suppose, but still they're nothing special really.

The TJ04 isnt as good as the Lian Li, costs more and is not all alluminium.

Lian Li are your best choice unless you are willing to shell out for a TJ03 or TJ07, even then Lian Li has ones that are as good generally for less.

whilst a PC7 has a simple look to it internally they are 'special' having a very nice clean layout. I actually think the look is quite smart and certainly they are better that anything else in the price range. Classic example of looks being decieving as they are so well built they put 'special looking' cases to shame.

I think there are still plenty of good cases on the market. It used to bother me that ATC-tek no longer are produced by Coolermaster, but tbh, it doesn't anymore. It only makes them rarer and if you shop around long enough and do a bit of work, you'll find one.

Now, rig's have moved on, and they will continue to do so. Case's have to change too. CM still offer some very good cases. I dont like very much of the Centurion line, but my biggest issue with them is that they have killed a lot of their 'older' style. The only bits left are the Wavemaster and Praetorian line. The Prae's are out dated and still mostly use the 201 chassis and the Wavemaster is about to be discontinued and replaced bu the Mystique, which doesn't look as good imo.

I also think there is more choice now than ever, but there is less choice from individual companies. CM's range used to look a lot alike and you could pick which you liked best. Now its a bit marmite.

Anyway, the TJ03 is a mighty fine case, but the earlier examples have better build quality than the later ones. The TJ07 is a great case too and if you have the money you should go for it. Lian-Li are certainly producing some great cases, the V series are superb, but I dont think there is anything special about cases such as the PC7. They may be well built and cheap, but there isn't anything very special about the design. As for being clean inside, there are plenty of other cases that do the same.

If you really don't like whats on offer then try and find another ATC. The aftermarket case niche isnt very old anyway and the designs we are seeing now are only the start. In 4 years time, it'll be all new again. You could buy a case thats 'ok' for you now and wait a while.

Cheers for all the thoughts guys. I think a PC7 would be a stop gap more than anything else. I'm tempted to try to negotiate my chieftec dragon back from my housemate, but honestly I think it'll be just as cheap to buy a Lian Li. Shame it's nothing special, but I suppose it's better than a lot of these "marmite" (cheers Alu_ATC) cases.

TJ03 is a good case, its a CM110 that does not look as good. :p (Pricey though)

THe P180 is nothing special at all, doors warping, case flex, not something great coming from a ATCs case and would show it all up even more.

Lian Li PC7+ is a sidewards move, not superior to the old ATCs range bar the inclusion of the 120mm fans, great case for the money but I know what you mean about them being not very special, its a shame such a good case is accessable to everyone. :p (Oh wait that is a good thing)

You could always go really over the top and get a custom case, anodised or hand made.

One appearing soon to consider a look at are the Lian Li G70 (VERY good, its a PC70/75 with 120mm fans) and the Lian Li S80, both look to be special but on the expensive side. I will be going for a S80 as I want to know what they are like!

Selling for $318 on newegg, and quickly skimming over the prices there they seem to pay less for Lian Li's than we do, so i reckon they'll retail at anything from £180'ish to £200+ here. Just a guess though.
