Damn clampers!!!

Have a look at these pics! (last 3 in my photstream) This is an auction just outside Norwich and every Tuesday,Thursday and Friday they have a sale. Traders and the public throng to it and the parking quickly fills up and some cars spill over onto the road. There is hardly any through traffic as the unit is at the end of the road in a newly built up business park, right opposite the main Police Stn.

Yesterday or last night clampers put signs up on the lamp posts, about 7-8ft high, well above head hight, then turned up this morning at 11am when the sale started and everyone was inside and clamped all the cars on the road! The clamping fee was ....£130 and to release it, £200. So £330 for a car and £450 for vans!

Totally bonkers and I feel sorry for the poor guys that got clamped. Surely this isn't legal but the clampers and land owner are raking it in!

Cut the clamp or padlock with a set of bolt cutters, scum the lot of them!!!!!

They could easily just get together and fix the problem as they will have numerous resources at their disposal.

I'd be off the local Hire Shop if that happened to me and imagine if all the car and van owners all did the same, result loads of wrecked clamps

do clampers actually have a license to turn any road into a no park zone for no reason at all?

the way some of them seem to operate these days has more in common with protection rackets than anything else.

I thought this too, so that the drivers saw the clamp upon returning to the vehicle and didn't drive away accidently

Crikey OP, you're very close to where I am! As soon as I saw the thread title I wondered whether it'd be about the auctions!

This has happened about 3 or 4 times now. Signs go up the night before and then clampy clampy the next day

There was a couple of people there earlier jacking their cars up to try and get the wheel off somehow whilst the police just watched

I've heard they can put it on the passenger side but that they have to put a notice on the car so that you can clearly see it.

I don't have source to cite for that though.

PCM uk were given an ASBO last year afaik for illegal clamping operations.

I'd also do the same as others have suggested, bolt cutters! and remove the signs on the lamp posts.

Find the name of the company doing the clamping, if they are not licenced to do it then they are illegally clamping vehicles.

Looks like they also entered into a CVA last year and their website has been under construction for a long time.

would imagine auctions are filled with a lot of dead wood that probably only go once anyway lol, most of the pros will have got in early anyway so no loss to the auctioneers.
