Well after 24 years of driving with a completely clean license and genuinely trying to abide by speed limits I suppose it had to happen at some time... just got a NIP for travelling 39 in a 30.

Annoyingly I genuinelycan't remember whether my wife or I was driving at the time but as I'm the registered keeper I'll have to put myself down.

Damn it.

Yes I know, speed kills, etc. I'm a bit cheesed off as I usually stick to the limit and guessing by the alleged speed of 39 I assume my wife/me would have thought it was a 40 :(

Damn it again.

What are my chances of a speed awareness course?

First things first.

Whats the date of the offence and did you receive the NIP on or within the 14 day limit

Unfortunately yes... 25th Oct.

I'm not trying to squirm out of it. Just a bit disappointed as we both drive so carefully and it just feels like yet another way to hammer the hard working, law abiding, citizen :)

I think 38mph is the cut off for a speed awareness. IIRC it's within 10% + 5mph for the course.

I might be wrong though and it might just be certain councils that do that.

It's that time of year again when they need a bit extra cash so they send these ******* out in force.

Ooh just in. £95 though, I paid £70 last year.

Bugger. That's more than the fine :(

Probably worth it though.

So annoyed. It was a genuine mistake by one of us. Oh well, take it on the chin etc. The annoying thing is we were driving to hospital for a checkup on whether I needed further treatment after my tumor was removed. It never rains but it pours eh?

Did it not include an image??

Not yet. It's just a request for me to tell them who was driving. I thought the image was from the rear anyway? And even if it did show my wife then it seems a bit of a crap thing to do, for me to drop her in it. It certainly would have been one of us.

Except you broke the law

Not denying that (here we go on OcUK Motors...) My point was it was a genuine mistake as we literally drive everywhere on the speed limit. I'm not trying to get out of it. I'll take it on the chin. In fact I'll take it on the chin even though I can't be sure who was driving.

Thats fair enough, but there not 'hammering a law abiding citizen', they are penalising someone who broke the law, weather it was accidental or not.

Ok mate whatever.

Why is this factual opinion of the law always so unpopular on here? Its a law, you broke it, you take the penalty. Nobody has set out to target law abiding citizens, as if you were a law abiding citizen, you wouldn't be being fined for breaking the law would you?
