Damn, I Think My Monitor Is Knackered

I've got a Samsung SyncMaster T240 as my main monitor and now it'll sometimes work fine but if I try to launch a game the screen will go dark and then it won't work for a few hours.

Temps are fine on my graphics card and my second monitor is unaffected.

I just noticed that I can faintly see the desktop on it as patches of white are showing up. If I switch it off and on the picture will briefly show up (although duller than normal) and then it will disappear.

Has anyone experienced anything similar or is it just time to RMA?

To confirm that it is the monitor at fault can you connect it up to a laptop or another PC? If it does the same thing when connected to them I would start the RMA process immediately.

Sounds like maybe the backlight in the monitor has gone, RMA time if it's under warranty. As above, you have to test with another gfx card/machine first just in case it's not.

I thought I had nothing else to test on it but I can try my PS3 on it later.

I thought it was something to do with the backlight but because I know nothing about monitors I didn't want to hazard a guess.

I thought I was shafted warranty wise cause I've had it a year and 2 months but dug out the paperwork and it's a 3 year on site warranty you get with the Samsungs. Thank goodness I don't have to send it back to OcUK, it'd cost a bomb.

Samsung RMA was very good with my t240, it did weird things over hdmi and the backlight never turned back on after it had been on standby. Swapped it for a new unit on the doorstep a couple of days later which works perfectly.

You're right, their RMA was excellent.

Phoned up on Monday morning and had a new monitor by 1.30pm the next day.:)
