So here we are, Christmas Day.

By midday, all presents are unwrapped and I'm sat next to my new Core i7 processor, EX58-UD5 motherboard, Corsair XMS3 6GB DDR3 memory and Corsair H50-1 cooler. Lunch will be up soon though, so to one side everything goes.

Finally, with lunch digesting and all the clearing up done, it's time to start dismantling everything. Within the time taken to remove the side panels of the case, I realize my plan has come to a grinding halt...

The OCZ 500W PSU I intending taking from my current Core2Duo build doesn't have an 8-pin ATX12V connector... only a 4-pin one... and I don't have any other PSU in the house that does either. ****. :(.

So now I face a double problem. 1, I now need to spend £70-ish that I had hoped not to, and don't really have, and 2, it'll be Wednesday if I'm lucky before the new PSU will be delivered.

Now to turn this into a semi-useful thread rather than a sob story, has anyone any suggestions beyond the Corsair range of PSUs? Specifically I think I'm going for the TX 650W at the moment. Full specs are below if it makes much of a difference.

Well, funny you should say that. Obviously upon realizing my mistake, I jumped straight to Google to try and find out if I had any options and a couple of links suggested it was possible to get it up and running, but as you've said, the last thing I want to do is break anything new!

For any kind soul who is more knowledgable than I, this is the PSU I currently have:

I had actually found those adapters earlier, however I will be honest and say I have absolutely no idea of the power supply is up to it and my bigger worry is, given the higher end nature of the components, do I want to be using a 'bodged' solution rather than a newer PSU with the correct connector?

You know, I think it's the probability of having to wait for a new supply to be delivered that's agitating me the most. Why on earth can't the two well known electronics and components shops stock decent brand name items, rather than cheaper and infinitely more rubbish stuff yet charge the same price?!

I just want to play with my new stuff :(;).

I think that's pretty much what I'll do to be honest. Frustrating though!

How I wish I'd checked the PSU when I ordered all the new bits :(.
 
Now you know I did read that page actually, and got confused lol. What I don't fully understand is, if their are 8 pins, how is it I can get away with only using 4? Can I be absolutely sure everything will run right? As you picked up on, the manual states some kind of cover needs to be removed when using all 8, however there is no cover of any kind on the pins at the moment!

I think the intention is to get a new PSU anyway, but if I can be sure the build will run with the one I have right now, I will go ahead and get it setup :).

Ok so the more I read about this, the more confident I seem to be getting that I can get away with the 2x2 12V connector provided it will supply at least the 130W required by the CPU... right so far? lol

If that's all it boils down to, and accepting I won't be able to overclock until I get a new PSU, is there any way I can be sure my current OCZ 500W will do the required 130W on that connector?
