so my iBook got stolen while I was waiting for a plane at Schipol, I'm pretty miffed about it. But luckily I have various backups of the machine.

Had a password on the machine but they took the Leopard DVD so they could reset it, stole my power adapter too but left the UK plug for it.

Haven't lost too much but the loss of the hardware and disruption it causes me as I've got uni coursework to do is a bit of a blow.

Anyone have advice or kind words?

Don't think I'm insured for travel, my mum says she will buy me a new machine though.

Sorry to hear that - I travel through through airports (including that one regularly) and I'm basically paranoid about my laptop in airports for this very reason.

Personally, where-ever I did went with my MacBook, it's strapped on to me like it's a vital organ to me, never left it out of sight my a foot away...

yeah learned my lesson now, besides I had a rucksack and you can only have only one item of hand luggage a I had to put it in my suitcase unfortunately

Schipol is *terrible* for this kind of thing. Pretty much everyone I know that's been there has been mugged/pick pocket or had things stolen. Myself fortunately excluded.

Mugged, at an airport, that is seriously crappy! I quite like Amsterdam airport, never had any problems myself.
