Damn, was about to get an RX100 but might hold off...

I know, at $3K it will likely be far too expensive, but I can't help lusting after such a camera. The only thing that would make me happier with such a compact, would be if the lens was a 35mm 1.4, but F2 is good enough for me, and the Zeiss optics would likely be great.

*If* sony bring this to market, they could have a real winner imo, I would never buy a Sony DSLR as things currently stand, but I would definitely want to buy this, *funds permitting*.

That's what insurance is for.

However the price is a little too much imo, but it will likely be an awesome camera + lens that will also likely have the Sony equivalent of VR.
If price come down I'll happily trade in an RX100 and pay the extra for an RX1. Tbh I think the RX1 will be in a niche market of it's own (at least until others catch up).

Not completely sure what you mean, but it would be like using a full frame Nikon (probably D800 in terms of resolution) with a 35mm F2 VR lens.

As the RX100 is 20mp, I would think the FF RX1 would be more than that.
