Damn windows vista

Installed vista, ran fine for a few months. Then installed some automatic windows updates one of which apparently voided the OEM license key which I bought from OCUK. I rang up microsoft and explained what had happened, they said is fine and they would give me new license key, but only if I tell them the brand of my pc. I let them know it's a self build, they say they can't help me and that I shouldn't of purchased an OEM version. Now I have to buy another copy.

And thats vista's fault how? Just call them again.

Microsoft don't offer support on OEM licenses anyway. For OEM licenses, your point of contact is the manufacturer - i.e. OcUK.

tell them the make of your motherboard, the license key is tied to that.

Or when they ask if it's installed only on one PC say yes it is, they don't ask any other questions and you should not give any more details....

is it an nforce4 board by any chance?, an issue with ms update drivers de-activates windows vista, happened to me a couple of months ago.

if it is, type "slui 4" in the command prompt and follow steps for auto phone activation, only takes a couple of mins and worked for me.
