Looking to sort out and reseal the gaps in my lockblock on the path to the front door and driveway, all good. Going to start with leveling off around the front door as it's not entirely flat, so start pulling the blocks out.

So when they built it 4 years ago, all they've done is piled in aggregate and sand in right upto under the door and against the wood frame underneath, over the top of the damp course. Not entirely convinced that's the right way to do it:

What do I want to do here, just get a new bit of damp course and put it in front of the timber(seems to be alright, so would rather nip it in the bud now rather than let it detrioate further) so damp sand isn't just sitting right up against it? My only concern with this is then damp rising up the inside of the new course as it wouldn't be sealed up at the bottom, other than by the weight of sand on it.

Or do I want to make sure it's ventilated - I'm thinking I could stick slate in there to create a physical gap between the timber and hold the sand back, and create a ventilation space.
