I just block the really obnoxious ads (flashing bright green/yellow colours, stuff that makes noise) any other banner ad or whatever doesn't bother me. I'd feel like a dick visiting a site and blocking their source of revenue.

I find changing my hosts file with a list of known advertisers (including tracking domains such as Google analytics) is far superior that any 3rd party add on. Best of all it is transparent to the browser, therefore it works on all of them.

I haven't seen an advert for a while now, regardless of browser.

right click on the UI and select "customize..." and chose which toolbars you want, which buttons you want and WHERE YOU WANT THEM!
