I couldn't wait another week for the final 
I grabbed the alternate install CD image because the text mode install is familiar from Breezy and also because I read about some problems with the GUI "LIVE CD" install method ( like GRUB fubaring the hard disk
).
I was blown away by the install speed which is much quicker than Breezy. Started at 1126 hrs, removed the CD for the one and only reboot ( eat your heart out Windows
), and was at the desktop by 1145 hrs.
Now all I need to do is drop to the command line and compile the driver for my Conexant PCI ADSL modem
( I dream of the day when PPP/PPPOA/PPPOE just works out of the box )
