dark messiah problems :(

right i bought dark messiah the game for £10 after having fun with the demo however after installing it on its own or with steam it doesnt work at all. I can play the prolouge but with steam when i went to load chapter 1 it crashed. so then i installed it normally patched it and then played it, and said this "0x2408b170" referenced memory at "0x20421ea8" memory could not be read and mentioned the mm.exe. so then i went to look for a no cd patch on the grounds that if the exe was the problem then if i had the no cd patch the exe would change and hopefully fix my problem however now when i play it i defeat the cyclops go downstairs open a portcullis and then a loading screen comes up and the game crashes to desktop,

any ideas guys or similar problems
