Tonight, i'm taking my sister out to go and see her very first concert at the CIA (Cardiff international arena), although im not a big fan of the band, i do wish she has a great and memorable time there. Well, from currently taking photos of all different concerts from the past which I’ve been to, I can never get the pictures the way I want it to look. They usually come out blurry due to the shutter speed or very dark due to the lack of light in the arena. Is there any way I can sort this out at all?

I have a ‘Samsung Digimax L60’ camera which is 6 mega pixel and has a shutter speed the total of 15 seconds.

If any one could help I would much appreciate it

My compact has a fireworks mode, i.e. long exposure, so I use that but cover the lens with my hand after 1 sec (as it tries to do a 5 sec exposure).

I'm afraid you'll be very lucky to get anything of decent quality.

yea i know what you mean, specially with a digi cam you know.

but, mine has a firework mode also, i'll give your advice a try and i'll see what happens, thanks mate!

Taking photos in low light is not an easy business, you can't just use a long exposure and expect every shot to come out. You have to think about camera shake and motion blur (which are two distinct and different things).

You need to shoot with quite a quick shutter speed, 1/30s at the slowest, to minimise camera shake and probably faster to actually stop the motion of the subject. Now by ramping up the shutter speed to that degree you need to compensate by letting more light onto the sensor by opening up the aperture or by increasing the sensitivity (ISO). The problem comes if you've set the aperture wide open and maxed out the ISO only to find that the shutter speed is still wanting to be 1/5s or so. All you can really do is hope for some brighter lighting I'm afraid.

Okay, its the night after the concert, and i got many successfull pictures. :D
