the idea behind the game is that you are given your murdered fathers ship, ("Darkstar One") and you upgrade it etc... doing missions and flying around etc...

The Most Important Features:

* Elaborate story, related by more than fifty minutes of video sequences

* Upgradeable space ship "Darkstar One": The player decides which type of spacecraft he prefers - a fast attack ship with many light weapons or a near-invincible cruiser with heavy weaponry

* Over two hundred different weapons, shields and equipment items

* Rockets, torpedoes and mines feature special tactical uses: mines can tactically fire at opponents or distract approaching missiles

* The "Spell Weapon": the player will have a special weapon at his disposal that will have an area of effect similar to certain spells in role-playing games. This weapon will become increasingly versatile throughout the game and it will increase the tactical potential considerably.

* A vast, simulated universe with numerous, completely different races, space ships and battle tactics.

* Each race features distinctive weapon types with different functions that require different battle tactics. The player will be able to acquire these weapons in order to mount them on the "Darkstar One".

* Special missions, for example in canyons, on the surface of planets or inside of planets

* Freedom of choice: the player may earn his credits in many ways, i.e. fighting, piracy, assignments, smuggling, trading, escorting, transporting, rewards ...

* Follow your own path, be it "good" or "bad", and take advantage of political disputes.

* Compatible with mouse, joystick and gamepad.

looks good, hopefully it delivers :)

Metaboli have it available for download (this is the only way to play it at the moment as it hasn't been released in store yet)

Hmmm I'm tempted to just subscribe to that site for a month. Looks like some good games I haven't played - Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory for one.

£13 a month isn't bad considering the range of titles you get access to.

Yes there is some crap - but there is also some great stuff too.

Now to work out how many of then I'd actually play - although a lot of them use the nastiest piece of protection software ever created... starfarce..

Wonder how they got around that?

i used to be with Metaboli, the only annoying thing about them is that once you cancel your subscription you can't play any of the games you've downloaded.

service is good and forums have a good feel to them too.

i'm pretty sure however that the Darkstar One they have up is not the 100% complete version and has reportedly got a fair few bugs etc... in it.

i think the people who make the game are using Metaboli as a way of a) getting feedback and b) getting easy public testing :p

it looks nice, but im undecided on whether some of the footage in the trailor is cgi or in game...

some of the explosions look very cgi like

god that looks good :)

most of the movie looked ingame to me, the first parts were cgi however. theres a clear difference between the first and last half of that movie graphicswise. highly considering signing upto that site and grabbing it, been waiting for freelancer 2 to be announced for ages this might keep me happy until then though.
