Hey.

My wife bought me a next base 412gw with the hardwire kit.

I was wondering if it's a good idea to have it wired to a perm source of power or use a switched?

I wouldn't mind having it record any issues that may arise when it's left at a garage or tyre place or simply Iver night.
But I don't want it killing my battery (although it has a built in shut off when a battery drops below 11.4v)

What would you pick?

Thanks

I have the same camera, just fitted a week ago and opted for the hardwire kit, when your car is off, and if you have Parking mode enabled, it will only power on and record for the pre set time you choose (5 mins Max), then will power off again.

In the menu settings, you need to Enable Parking Mode, then when you exit and lock your car, the camera turns off, but the G sensor can power the system back on in the event of a bump or bang to your car, the camera will automatically start to record and will also mark the recording as Protected, so it cant be erased easily or by mistake.

There is also a setting, under Recordings, for duration, 2m, 3m or 5 minutes, this is how long the camera will record before starting a new file (so you dont have one huge file after a long drive), it is also how long the parking mode will record for in the event it is triggered, once the time is up, the camera will power off again.

Parking mode will record whatever is in front of the car when triggered, so if your parked and somebody hits your car in the front, you will have them on video... naturally, if they hit your car anywhere else its not going to catch them..
