Psycho Sonny said:wouldnt you prefer to have these new features as soon as possible rather than waiting a whole year, they only do 2 updates a year, only 1 of them actually affects the end user, so really they only do 1 real update a year, so after this update im going to have to wait a whole year to get any new features that they develop rather than getting them straight away, whereas sony make firmware upgrades for their psp every few months, i find it totally stupid that we pay for the service and rather than being given updates as soon as possible we have to wait a year
are you really telling me there is no need to update the console more frequently than once a year
KNiVES said:You seriously want revamps every week? It would alienate the userbase, much like Steam's new look and interface did for many others. And no, there's no need to update the console so frequently, it's fine as it is, we bought consoles to avoid the negative traits of PC-dom (which is what regular updates and patches is).
NorthstaNder said:well the two updates last year affected end users. the fall update tidied up the marketplace and arcade blade. and it added the extra vga resolution too.
can't remember what the spring update changed it was too long ago!

rp2000 said:I have a hunch that the files you mean (the h.264 files with 5.1 sound that are found on the internet) will not work natively. The text they quote states only files that have upto 4.1 sound will be supported and no-one encodes hem like that. (Unless I am mis-reading this).
Just a hunch as the PS3 says it supports these types of files and I haven;t ben able to get them to work properly either.
"Finally I gan give more details without getting into trouble.
Good news: h.264 is the same decoder used for HD-DVD. VC-1 is also multi threaded so higher bitrates should now work.
Bad news: h.264 is only supported in MPEG-4 containers and the audio is ONLY 2ch AAC LC. The profile support is 4.1 for HD and 5.0 and 5.1 for SD (720x576) content (we run out of memory for HD 5.0+ content). MPEG4 is SP only no ASP seatures are supported (B-Frame, QPEL etc.). Also no subtitle support.
This updated functionality is for the dash video player only. MCX is a separate product and is completely unrelated to the dash."
Dark_Angel said:Only 2 features I REALLY want now is 1680x1050 support, and the ability to remove games from your profile with no achivements (like arcade games you have not purchased for example).

Yeah, she is fairly irritating, but I get the feeling Major Nelson feels the same! However I always thought she sounded like she was quite hot, but after seeing their video interview on Xbox.com I realised she mings hard!!
Psycho Sonny said:maybe not every week but whenever they have developed a new feature or optimised an old one or done something worth doing i would rather have the update sooner rather than later - maybe every month,
you seriously think updates and patches are a trait - *** a noob
only 2ch sound? fs thats crap!
Phemo said:I like the idea of the keyboard. There is one thing I don't get, however. Looking at the renders and the actual photos of it, there's just a jack on the bottom for where the headset would plug in. The problem is that the two little slots either side of the jack aren't on the keyboard, so how will those people with the wired headset plug their headsets in?
I'm guessing it'll come with an adapter of some sort but then you'll just have a bulky bit dangling from the keyboard.
Or maybe they figure that if you're using the keyboard you won't need to use a headset, but if that was the case why would the jack be there at all? Hmm ...
