Dashboard-covered-in-buttons epidemic

Pretty sure that most of the decent manufacturers are going for all-encompassing controls that access every feature of the infotainment from one central location.

What (crud) cars are you looking at?

I agree. But what is worse is what some manufacturers are doing. For instance the Vauxhall Ampera has all touch sensitive buttons:

This is a really **** idea. I like to be able to feel where the buttons are so I don't have to look whilst driving. This makes it virtually impossible. Touch sensitive buttons are also unresponsive and slow.

One other thing that I hate is in some 'luxury' cars the climate control and everything is on the touch screen which is really slow and unresponsive. What was wrong with having a dial or a real button?

I think BMW have got the right balance of climate and radio being physical buttons then sat nav and other bits through the swivel wheel.

i love it. i remember as a kid getting into a range rover or possible discover and being amazed at all the gadgets on the dash and center console :P

most of my cars hardly have any fun things to poke :(

Is the Tesla actually a "real" car though? I know some exist but is it actually a consumer product that real people will ever buy?

I guess to Joe Average a shed load of buttons gives the impression of "oooh, this car is dripping with kit". I prefer things a little less cluttered myself with instant touchy feelyness to the important controls.

That is why I prefer the climate controls in our Punto over the Octavia. In the Punto you just turn the knob to adjust the temperature, it has a notched feeling as it turns and each notch represents 0.5'C. If the settings are all to poop you can just press in the centre of the knob and it switches everything back to full auto. Simple things like that keep me happy as I can keep my eyes on the road.

What I really hate are these new Ford centre consoles that are "designed like a mobile phone keypad". Such a pointless layout!

Also - does anyone else really hate that new style vauxhall wheel? Why is the third (centre) spoke so thick and fat? It trully sucks. Like driving with a dinner plate as a wheel. The wheel in the teslas at least has a better spoke thick ness.
