Hi all,

I am looking for a dashboard phone mount to hold both an iphone 4 and a samsung s3. It will be used for sat nav apps on either phone.

I used to have a windscreen mounted holder but due the the layout of a new car I want something that will stick on the vertical section of the dash.

I have seen mounts that connect to the air filters/ vents but I don't know how secure they'd be? Does anyone have one of these?

There are loads available on amazon but they all seem very cheap and have mixed reviews. If you have any suggestions to a good mount that will attach to the vertical section of my dash (above cd/ radio) that would be great.

I use Brodit kit in mine. Buy the specific mount for your car (theres often mounts for several different locations on the dash) and then the phone holder suitable for your phone. I guess in your case you'd want a more universal holder as you're using two different phones.

The advantage of doing it this way is if/when you change car, you only need to replace the car-specific mount.

Brodit stuff isn't the cheapest, but the quality is good.

Thanks, I had seen them but I am after a universal holder, Brodit only seem to do holders for specific phones only.

I'll have a look into it.

I my old car I had a windscreen mounted holder but my new car has gauges above the centre console so I can't put it there and the distance between the gauges and the rear view mirror means putting a holder the obscures too much vision.

I would put it the the right of the wheel but then I don't have the option to plug the phones in to charge while using them.

Thanks :)

Reason is that the cable for my phone is really short and can only reach about the centre of the dash next to where the radio console is.

Bought one of these from the bay recently, it's great having it on the dash rather than the windscreen. The clip idea I think is excellent, especially for different devices, though it does need 2 hands to use.

Just bought one of these to use in the Mazda, had an Exomount for nearly two years now and that is near as makes no difference identical that I leave in the Punto.

They are fantastic, stick like poop to a blanket to the dash and when they do start to lose their stick (build up of dust) 30 seconds under a cold tap revives it to as good as new.

I have used only Brodit mounts and proclips for holding mobiles on my cars. Not cheap but does the job well , only need to get a different mount when changing mobile phones. Personally don't like ones that use suction to the windscreen.

The Kenu does work really well and I like the minimalist style to it.

The only downside it you have to buy it from the US, pay inflated shipping prices and people have subsequently received import charges ranging from £8 to £14.

However Kenu have told me it's due to go on sale in the UK within a month or two.

Just got a Nokia one for 4 quid. Didn't want to spend much as it's only for hire cars and when we use the gfs car. Should be here soon so will update the thread.

I wouldn't build your hopes up. I've gone through several car mounts, from window suction mounts to air vent mounts, and the only decent ones are the permanent fixed mounts. Brodit are the best and you pay for what you get.

That Kenu one looks good on the video, but I can assure you, you won't be able to wip the phone out of the cradle like they did on the video without snapping a vent. Also be careful with your placement of mobile phone if you do decide to attach it to the air vent. With air con on, condensation can build up inside the phone and cause it to break (and also void any warranty).
