Battery has died in an old dashcam, and I wish to replace it, but I cant find one that's an exact match

its a 3.7v, 300mAh LIPO battery, but I cant find one with the same dimensions, only larger, so they wont fit (as I bought one to try)

if I was to change the mAh to say 400, would it still work as intended ?

mAh rating won't cause any problems - if its lower than the original battery you'll get less time out of it, if higher you might get a bit longer. The main thing is that the voltage is of the same rating.

While not often the case there might in some specialist scenarios be some implications due to the max output current the battery can discharge but its rare for that to have any implications for things like cameras.

As long as it's the same voltage, it'll be fine.

The reason you can't find a 300mah battery the same size is the original is unlikely to really be 300mah - it'll be a smaller capacity battery that the manufactorer has over rated to make the specs look good. I bet 200mah - 250mah batteries fit just fine.
