I know there are a few of these threads but oh well. Had a motorcyclist brake check me for a while today so thought it was about time to invest in a dashcam. Are there any decent ones that don't require much fiddling about with?

think the majority of them don't need much fiddling to be fair, think it only gets slightly fiddly when you want to hardwire it into the power rather than using the 12v/cig out for the power source ;)

some I think can be battery (their own internal) powered so can avoid the need of any cables in the car, just stick it to something...but then you'll need to remember to take it out in the evenings to charge probably ;)

plenty of cheap and cheerful ones on ebay that have had good reviews from several members on here. can also get a variety of apps that turn your smart phone into a dash cam, downloaded one myself but have yet to actually test it (need to replace my phone holder as mine broke :( )

suppose another key point is how much are you willing/aiming to spend as they can range from about £20 <720p30fps simple jobby, up to £400ish for dual cams with GPS in 1080p60fps singing and dancing etc etc

Something under £100 preferably, im not to bothered about hard-wiring things as I would prefer that than wires everywhere.

mobius action camera is probably one of the best for under a £100 notes even when having bought one from HK. It came to about £65 because I got stung on damn customs for £12.00.

check out techmoans youtube channel, he reviews loads of cameras

above review of the mini0801 like pepsilol's

Was just about to post a similar thread - After one for my Dad for Christmas. Was originally going to go for a Mobius on the recommendation of a friend but the 'Mini 0801 Car DVR' looks great... Even better with the included screen (no guessing or trial and error with mounting!).

Anybody got anything better than the 'Mini 0801 Car DVR' in the <£100 sort of area? Any 'best' place to buy from? Thank you! :)

Smartcam 2 HD is what I use. Simple, no frills, works well. Doesn't feel like the highest quality thing on the market, but you get what you pay for, and it seems reliable enough.

Should have done this :p

I don't think any of the other dashcams I've seen are as discrete and look as good as the Blackvue when stuck up at the top of the windscreen, so that would be my recommendation. I've had the typical "lens fogging up" issue on mine though - after a while the image goes slightly cloudy and you need to unscrew the casing and the lens and just give the rear of the lens (where it faces the sensor) a clean. But then I've yet to read about any dashcams which are without any faults whatsoever, so it's swings and roundabouts really!

We use go pros in the vans, good quality but can only fit around 2 hours recording on them.

It would definitely be worth buying something with good quality to make out plates or faces as some of the cheaper ones struggle with detail.

Hmm that version of the video stops before you see the driver get out and check his car for damage before casually walking over to the biker :D

haha pretty similar to my situation really, apart from wiping him out. I was trying all sorts to get around him but he kept on blocking my path, couldn't really do a lot in a measly 1.6 diesel, might have been a different story in the celica though. I've heard a lot of good reviews about the mini 0801 and it seems to tick all the boxes, costs just under £70 so not too bad

I bought a M600 from ebay a little while back but not got round to installing it yet. Supposed to be good quality and cheap. Cost me £30 plus a 32Gb micro sdcard.
