Data Error: Cyclic Redundancy Check on Hard Drive

Just received a new 1Tb WD 32mb Green hard drive from OCUK to add into my WHS. Trouble is I don't seem to be able to format it.

Computer management gives an error similar to 'windows has been unable to format the drive' and when I try to format the drive in a USB caddy it gives the error "Data Error: Cyclic Redundancy Check on Hard Drive".

Can't think of any another work around to get it to format, I take it the drive is DOA and time to get an RMA?

Interested to hear if anyone else has had similar problems

I've had similar problems with my 640GB WD drive. Try this program...

Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for Windows - it should pretty quickly tell you if there is a problem.

Tried the diagnostic program on it?

The WD tools fail code is "11-Cable Test::Read diagnostics sector error!" on all tests.
