Data error(cyclic redundancy check)

I keep getting this irritating error when am trying to copy some stuff to my external usb drive. Any idea how to get around it?

Cyclic redundancy check errors usually have something to do with corrupt files or in your case, a corrupt USB drive if I remember correctly.

Can anyone back this up?

I had this exact error with a HD that started failing. I think it's hardware related.

I get this when the CD i'm installing from spins too fast! :-/ I have to limit the speed using a software I got!

A CRC error indicates that the data is being corrupted at some point during the transfer process. It's most likely a hardware failure. It could be either the hard disk that's failed or the USB interface (I'd bet on the hard disk).
